CAT 2026 Mock Tests: Practice Plan and Analysis Template

A useful CAT mock is a timed attempt followed by a specific repair plan. Practise the confirmed three-section structure, review missed and wrongly attempted questions, and retest the underlying skill. The number of completed tests matters less than whether repeated errors are disappearing.

Last verified: 7 October 2026. This is an independent preparation guide; applications, admit cards and official notices are available through iimcat.ac.in.

Practise the confirmed timing

The CAT 2026 press release specifies 120 minutes with 40 minutes each for VARC, DILR and Quantitative Ability, without switching sections. Use this timing for standard full-length practice. Follow any candidate-specific official accommodation instructions where applicable.

The official CAT mock, when released through the CAT portal, should be used to learn the interface and published instructions. Do not treat a coaching test’s question distribution as confirmation of the final examination format.

A practical weekly cycle

Use this as an adjustable study plan, not an official requirement. Start with one full mock and a complete review each week. Add another only when the review backlog is clear and you have time to repair weak areas.

SessionTaskUseful output
Timed attemptWork without pauses or outside helpAn honest baseline

Mock-analysis template

For each important error, write the question or set reference, time spent, original decision, cause and next action. Avoid copying complete solutions into a notebook without stating what you will do differently.

Error typeExampleNext action
Concept gapCould not form the ratio equationRevise the concept and solve a small varied set
Selection errorSpent too long on an unproductive DILR setPractise scanning and compare alternative starting sets
Reading errorMissed a qualifier in an RC optionIdentify the exact sentence supporting or rejecting the choice
Calculation errorCorrect method, wrong arithmeticRedo the steps and track recurring calculation slips
Time pressureRushed solvable questions at the endTest a deliberate exit rule in the next sectional

Track more than one score

Record attempted, correct and incorrect questions by section, time lost on abandoned work and questions you could solve during an untimed reattempt. Compare several tests from the same series before interpreting a trend.

Provider percentiles depend on that test’s participant pool and timing. A higher percentile in one provider’s mock does not establish a higher national CAT percentile. Use the score for feedback, then inspect the decisions behind it.

Where to start practising

First check the official CAT portal for its current mock or practice instructions. For a commercial trial, Cracku’s current page lists three free CAT mocks with video solutions. IMS offers a free enrolment route including one full-length SimCAT. Check the provider page for account requirements and current access terms.

Use the final weeks to consolidate

As November 29 approaches, favour a repeatable attempt process and a short list of fixable weaknesses. Do not add many new test series simply because a score dips. Revisit your error log and repeat selected questions without looking at the solution.

In the last few days, choose a workload that preserves sleep and concentration. Confirm exam logistics separately through the admit card. A difficult final mock should be analysed as one practice result, not a verdict on your ability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many mocks should I take?

There is no universal required count. Choose a frequency that leaves time for full analysis and targeted practice.

Should I take a mock every day?

Only if you can review it properly and sustain the workload. An unresolved review backlog is a reason to slow down.

Is a mock percentile my predicted CAT percentile?

No. The participant pool, test difficulty and timing differ.

What should I do immediately after a poor mock?

Identify a small number of recurring causes and fix them before taking another full test.
